Nuevo Vallarta is a planned resort area on the Nayarit side of Banderas Bay, just north of Puerto Vallarta's airport. It isn't a traditional town with a plaza; it's long, gentle beaches, marinas, golf courses and big hotels, which makes it relaxed and family-friendly.

From Rincón de Guayabitos: About 58 km, roughly 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes by car. Julio picks you up at your hotel and drives you there and back.

Things to do

  • Spend a beach day on the long, calm stretch of sand
  • Stroll the marinas and watch the fishing and whale boats come and go
  • Go whale watching in season (about mid-November to March)
  • Join a sea turtle release at a local camp in hatching season
  • Book a boat trip to the Marietas Islands or a sportfishing charter
  • Play a round at one of the area's golf courses
  • Pop over to nearby Bucerías for a more local town feel

Nightlife

Quiet. Most evenings happen inside the resorts, with a few marina bars and restaurants with occasional live music. For a real night out, Puerto Vallarta's Malecón and Zona Romántica are about 25–30 minutes away by taxi.
