Day trip · Sayulita, Nayarit

Sayulita

Surf town with a bohemian heart

Sayulita is a small, colorful surf village on the Riviera Nayarit coast. Cobblestone lanes, papel picado strung over the streets, a busy little plaza and a beach full of surf boards give it an easygoing, artsy feel that draws travelers from all over the world.

From Rincón de Guayabitos: About 30 km, roughly 35–45 minutes by car. Julio picks you up at your hotel and drives you there and back.

Things to do

  • Take a beginner surf lesson or rent a board on the gentle main-beach waves
  • Wander the plaza and side streets for colorful murals, boutiques and Huichol beadwork
  • Eat street tacos and fresh seafood from the many casual spots around town
  • Walk over the point to quieter beaches such as Playa de los Muertos
  • Join a whale-watching or boat trip in season (roughly December to March)
  • Try a yoga class; the town is known for its wellness studios
  • Pair the day with nearby San Pancho or Lo de Marcos for a slower beach town

Nightlife

Sayulita is lively for its size. Evenings center on the plaza, with cocktail bars, mezcal spots and a few places with live music or DJs that stay open late on weekends. It's casual and walkable rather than big-club nightlife; for that, Puerto Vallarta is the bigger scene.
